We assume that high quality articles about Lombardi contain more relevant reverences than made explicit in the works themselves. We can automatically determine what persons and institutions are referenced by some simple steps. We did the following:

  1.  We took the PDF-versions of
    • J. Zdebik, “Networks of Corruption: The Aesthetics of Mark Lombardi.s Relational Diagrams,” RACAR Revue d’art canadienne / Canadian Art Review, vol. 36, iss. 2, pp. 66-77, 2011. bibtex Go to document
    • R. Bigge, “Making the Invisible Visible: The Neo-Conceptual Tentacles of Mark Lombardi,” Left History, vol. 10, iss. 2, pp. 127-134, 2005. bibtex Go to document
    • Richard, Frances (2002). “Obsessive – Generous: Toward a Diagram of Mark Lombardi”, Wburg.com, Vol. 2, #2, Winter 2001–2002 issue. Reduced version of article included in the Global Networks catalog.

and converted them to regular text files by saving them accordingly in Adobe Acrobat.

  2. We ran Open Calais on the input leading to XML-files in which persons and institutions are marked as such.
  3. We used a script to extract these names and to convert them into a json-file.
  4. This file is then visualized as follows. It also shows that the visualization becomes unusable with too many nodes. We highlight node with high indegrees with colors (three references in red, two references in orange).
